Protect Your Prestigious Cigar Collection with a Custom Humidor

If you are into enjoying fine cigars then you should invest in a good custom humidor before you get your collection going. The box that the cigars come in won’t keep the cigars in prime condition for any long periods of time. If you know anything about cigars then you are quite aware that some cigars need to be kept 6 or 7 years before they reach their best and are ready to smoke. Fine cigars are like fine wine, the aged ones taste better and if you don’t have a custom humidor then the cigar can be ruined even before you use it.

The first step

The first step is to decide which type of humidor that you need. You will need to make a decision as to how big it will be and where you are going to keep it. Are you going to keep it in a room in your house or at the country club that you belong to.  For a smaller cigar collection, then getting a 12 to 20 cigar custom humidor should suffice. If you are going to travel with it, then the twelve is probably your best option.

If you go with a home or office humidor it can easily hold 100 cigars. If you want to show it off by displaying it on your desk then getting one that accents your furnishings is a good idea. If your cigar collection is larger, such as 300 cigars, then you should go with a custom cabinet humidor. Custom cabinet humidors can be plain or as decorative as you want them to be.

Start shopping

After you have decided where you will put your humidor and how big you want it, next it’s time to start shopping. You should be on the lookout for a humidor that is made with quality materials and is well made. The best custom humidors are made from wood that is dried to have 6% moisture content. You should make sure that it is made from solid wood and not just plywood. The surface should be free of cracks and lumps and should have a smooth feel to it.

If you decide to go with a travel humidor then it should be made from metal in order to protect both the cigars and case. The lining in the custom humidor should be a nice Spanish cedar. Be sure to take proper care of the humidor in order to make it last as long as possible.
